Or Torah has four Ark families that we help shop for monthly. The charity is anonymous as the families think we only do the delivering. Groups of 2 to 4 share the shopping and delivering and then divide the cost. Cost is usually between $75 - $120 dollars per volunteer. Participation in Ark Basket is about once every 15 months. If you would like to help but don’t have the time, one of our families takes Jewel certificates instead of shopping.

How it works:
Before the rotation starts, a calendar is mailed telling you your month.
If you have a difficulty with the month assigned (e.g.: out of town, wedding), there is plenty of time to call the coordinator to reschedule.

The month before your rotation, a card is mailed with the names of your partners and their phone numbers. Also the specific food list for your family is included. Depending on the family, there is usually discretion with brands and sizes you choose to buy. Families with health concerns may be more specific with their needs.

You and your partners then decide how to divide the responsibilities.

• Some split the list and do their own shopping and delivering
• Some shop and deliver together
• Often one partner does the shopping and the other the delivering

  Who gets into groups of 3 or 4?

  1. People trying to bring down the cost
  2. When any group does a holiday month (Pesach, Succot) we make it 3 to 4 strong because the shopping list tends to be longer.
